NFANWalby Farm Park, Carlisle has been awarded NFAN's 'National Farm Attraction of the Year 2010'.

Walby Farm presented with AwardTo say we're absolutely delighted is a serious understatement!  Following a tough judging procedure which included two anonymous visits the National Farm Attractions Network (NFAN) were impressed enough to put us ahead of some long established farm attractions.  We were honoured to be presented with our award at the NFAN Annual Conference by Lord Henley, Parliamentary Under-Secretary and Government spokesperson, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).  Neil Milbourn of Walby Farm Park said “We knew that we had been shortlisted but really didn’t think we would be able to compete at that level as we have only been open 2½ years.  It is a testament to our great team of staff and wonderful visitors that we have won such a prestigious award.  We are continually looking to improve Walby farm Park and add to our visitor’s experience.  We’re delighted to bring this award to Cumbria for the first time, hopefully winning this award will help to keep Cumbria on the tourist map. We were just as shocked when it was announced that Lord Henley was presenting the award as he is a neighbour of ours!  And then we had to go all the way to the West Midlands to receive our award from him!”

Ray Hipkin – Chairman of National Farm Attractions Network and Judge commented “Any family or group of people visiting Walby Farm Park are guaranteed an extremely enjoyable and educating day. That is why they came first in their category of the NFAN "Farm Attraction of the Year", despite serious competition from other attractions. The thought that has gone into the planning and provisions is some of the advanced thinking I have seen, including very high standards of animal welfare as well as visitors. Their staff also reflect the thinking of their management, by being knowledgeable and helpful to any visitor. They will always take the extra step to ensure you enjoy your day.”

Judging was extremely rigorous, with an emphasis on attraction planning, management and yes, health and safety. Especially worthy of note are the excellent facilities for the disabled, to quote one judge whose wife is disabled, "I am extremely happy to recommend to my wife that we could both visit the location and she would be able to enjoy the visit and get around the whole attraction. I would not put her in such a position unless I was confident
