In Wales, Jane Powell arranged for children to have breakfast in the canteen at Aberystwyth University's Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences.  They then had the opportunity to plant oats with oat breeder Dr Sandy Cowan and met Director Professor Wayne Powell.

Meanwhile, children and staff at Esh Winning Primary School in Co Durham were joined by David Etheridge from FACE. At an all-school assembly the children were reminded of the important work of farmers in helping to supply healthy foods for a healthy diet. Children from Y2, Y3 and Y4 were then involved in class workshops where they were able to milk ‘Mabel’, make their own butter, and see wheat ground to make wholemeal flour. The assembly and workshops complement the on-going efforts of this school to ensure that children have a clear understanding of the importance of a healthy balanced diet.
