On Friday 27 January Janet Hickinbottom, who has been FACE's National Education Officer since 2001, received her MBE from HRH Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.
Announced in the Queen's 90th Birthday Honours List in June 2016, the award was conferred for "Services to farming, countryside education and rural communities". It not only recognises Janet's long and committed service to FACE, but also her voluntary work with schools, museums and local communities in Warwickshire.
Beyond the everyday work of FACE, Janet has been central to a number of key farming industry initiatives, including the development of the Code of Practice, which seeks to ensure the health and safety of visitors to farms and countryside venues.
Dan Corlett, CEO of FACE said
"As people have been at pains to tell me, Janet is the 'glue that holds things together', whether referring to the FACE team or the many varied collaborations we are part of. Janet's honour is well-deserved and something for all of us to treasure. "
The day itself included a few surprises, including meeting half of 'Ant and Dec', who were also present to receive honours from the Prince.
Following the ceremony, Janet said
"I was particularly pleased that my husband and three sons were able to share the day with me – it was a memorable occasion for all of us.
"Thank you again to all those who supported my nomination and for the congratulatory messages I have received."
