Dolithon Meats Farm SignMid Wales Beef and Sheep Farm

Dolithon Meats supplies quality Welsh lamb and Welsh Black beef to a large area of mid and south Wales and also the English West Midlands. All the products are home reared farm assured livestock. The farm is situated in Dolau, a small village outside the Victorian Spa town of Llandrindod Wells in Radnorshire, mid-Powys Wales.

Farm ApproachPhilip Layton and his brothers Len and Colin have farmed this traditional family hill farm since they were 16, the farm has been in their family for four generations, but over the past 15 years they have bought neighbouring land and increased the size of the original farm by over 100%.  Philip’s wife Rachael, originally from Leek in Staffordshire, had a high profile job in retail and marketing and now looks after the accounts and management of the farm. She has played an active role in supporting her local community over the past 10 years, helping to raise over £150,000 in grants and funding for local projects.

Rachael’s and Philip’s motto is “we care for the food you eat so you don’t have to worry about what you’re eating”, and thus they provide their customers with beef and lamb born and bred on the farm, with 100% traceability. They are members of the Farm Assured Welsh Livestock (FAWL) scheme and have full herd health status from the Welsh Black Society. The farm is part of the Agri-Environment Scheme for Wales, whereby the farm pledges to structure their farming around proven environmental strategies. Their ethos includes no overuse of antibiotics, use of homeopathic remedies, as little use of chemicals as possible and only a small amount of fertiliser is used on their fields. Business is conducted in a sustainable way so that the customer, the environment and nature are not exploited in any way.
